What I believe this has done is attached the initial key I used to all four installs. Unfortunately I used the same Hotmail account for all four installs (since MS wants you to log in during each install). I have installed Office 2013 on four separate domain connected machines entering different retail keys. They number them, so I am now writing down on my office box that installed number, just in case I need to re-install in the future. Also you can check your account to see all the copies you have installed.

One thing I also learned is that since I install a lot of Office 2013,on a lot of computers, using the same account, at thirty copies you are told to create a new account, which I did. Put in the REAL Product ID and that is it. Of course, Microsoft just wants to make sure, you will have to reactivate your license. Enter the setup for office that is on your burnt disk, and install your next coy of office 2013. You're real product ID will than be revealed. On you next Office 2013 install, once again go to the /setup, put in your temp Product ID, log in, but this time choose ' I have a disk'.
Of course when you do this your REAL Product ID will be miraculously reviewed to you. After you log into your account I do what others have said and that is select Burn to a Disc, (FIRST TIME ONLY to get a hard copy of Office 2013. OK This problem is solved, here is what you do: And not for the good of it's most important fans, the techies like us! Just kills me that Microsoft is so paranoid that they now have cost me another $500 just to fix a simple problem!!! Microsoft used to be a cool company, in the past year they've completely changed. The script does pull the last 5 digits, which does not match any of the current keys I have saved. I have the old hard drive, and can still operate Office on it (except Outlook which suffers from the original drive issue). Windows was easy, as this is a Dell computer, but Office still requires the key to be entered. Of course now I've lost that paper, and need to re-install Office due to the computer's drive crashing.

I have one particular machine where I purchased Office 2013 Pro with the machine, and of course it came pre-installed but without the key, which was required to be entered from the little piece of paper that came with the computer.
Normally License Crawler works wonders on almost every machine I try it on. This issue is about to make me pull my hair out. MS wants to sell 365 solutions, not OEM -) Then install the Office package at the computer, knowing you are home safe if you or your customer forgets either login or changes mail address or whatever. Put that key in your local administered archive/documentation. Been there, tried it.Ĭonclusion: Register the product, choose "install from Disc", choose to burn your own disc, and from there you can see your actual product key. This Means, that should you or your customer forget the account they used for registering the PKC initially, there is no way you can regain access to the paid for Office product. Microsoft will not help (they say, they have no way of doing so) if you loose the product key or login to the account in question. When ever the PKC has been used, it can not be used to retrieve any information in the future. Users that register several keys under same account, should consider logging the keys in a local archive.

I don't know if Office 2013 OEM is like Windows 8 OEM where there "kinda" isn't a product key, so it's possible that all you need to do is reinstall the software.Īs a reminder OEM software is only licensed for the hardware it was purchased with and cannot be transferred across different hardware.Īccording to Belarc, the product keys for Office 2013 is not stored locally on the computer, only the last 5 digits seem to be what is available for identification.

If you did not recieve either, check your PC's markings and double-check that the serial number is not included near the Windows product key sticker (I haven't seen this done in ages, but for a while it was common to have the office key on a smaller sticker next to the windows one).įailing all that contact the manufacturer (the unit should still be under warranty) and advise them of the situation. The product key should be located on the package for the reinstallation DVD or on a product card (depending on your manufacturer) that was included with your PC. Even if JellyBean (or other keyfinders) do find the key it's going to be the OEM key, not the actual product key for reinstalls.

It should still end up in the same area for the programs that can find it, to find it in.įWIW 2013 should be set up like 2010 where the OEM key is not the same as the License key and can't be used for reinstallation. OEM and Retail only matter for how the license works, and what media you use to install it with.
